We ended up with a field of 62 girls and 76 boys for a total of 138 bowlers. This was a handicap tournament as bowlers used their handicap from the middle school league sheet for games bowled before May 18th. During qualifying we had a some great scores as Allison Temple bowled a 216 actual game, the only 200 actual game bowled by a girl in the entire tournament, this helped her to qualify 8th overall for match play which included the top 32 finishers after the 3 games of qualifying. The top girl qualifier this year was Emma Fisackerly who had a 690 series with handicap that also included a 195 actual her last game of qualifying. Emma led the girls field by 30 pins over the 2nd place qualifier Natalie Frank from Grand Blanc. As we moved into match play with the top 32 boys and top 32 girls we had several great matches and a tie on the girls side that ended up with #3 seed Lily Lutz from Bendle beating Lily Ann Johnson from Davison to move into the final 16. We also had a bit of an upset as the #32 seed Aubrey Livingston from Flushing upset the #1 seed Emma Fisackerly in the first round, Aubrey ended up winning her next match to make it to the final 8 before falling to Isabella Rickard who was the #24 seed from Lakeville who went all the way to the finals. On the other side of the girls bracket Abbie Green from Swartz Creek who was the #15 seed was quietly moving her way through the bracket with handicap games of 233,238, and 199 to move into the final 4 where she defeated Lily Lutz from Bendle 214 to 184 to moved into the finals against Isabella. The final match was back and forth and came down to the final frame. In the final frame Abbie finished first with a 198 game and Isabella had a chance to win on the final ball but came up just short with a 195 game to finish as the runner up. It was an exciting finish to a long day and when Abbie was asked what it was like to win the tournament, her response was “Scary”. Congratulations Abbie Green the 2024 Girls middle school singles tournament champion.
On the boys side, the #1 seed Hunter Jurvelin (Flushing) won his first round match with a hard fought 249 to 238 win over Hayden Gawne from Swartz Creek.
